THE RUNNING MAN

Chapter 17

December 6, 2002

Jacks Tower, 11 AM

"Yes, sir, Mr. Donaldson. Mr. Jacks looks forward to meeting with you, too." Angie nodded into the telephone receiver and then waved when Josie entered the office. "I’ll tell him you called, Mr. Donaldson."

Josie stood before Angie’s desk. "Mr. Donaldson? Is that SAM Donaldson?"

Angie nodded, holding up one finger to Josie indicating she would only be another minute. "Yes, sir. I’m sure Mr. Jacks has been a fan of Ms. Roberts for a long time, too. I’ll make sure to give him the number." She nodded once more and then hung up the phone with a sigh of exasperation. "I never realized that these television people could be such a pain! I’ll be glad when this interview is over, that’s for sure!"

"You didn’t answer my question! Was that really that foxy Sam Donaldson on the phone?" Josie asked, sinking into a chair next to Angie’s desk.

"You LIKE Sam Donaldson?" Angie asked, making a face.

"Oh, honey buns, he does for me what that Leo guy does for you when you watch that boat movie," Josie sighed. Then she smiled slyly at Angie. "But I guess you don’t need Sam or Leo now that you’ve got James, do you?"

Angie blushed. "Well, I have to admit he certainly does know how to keep a girl distracted while she’s watching "Little Mermaid" for the fourth time that evening!"

Just then, Jax came out of his office with Paul following close behind. "Angie, would you have time to fax these notes to Hong Kong for me? I have a meeting with Kimberly this afternoon about that speech I’m making tonight at the Daughters of something-or-other and I’m just about going to have time to get the speech done before she gets here." He finally looked up and caught sight of his grandmother. "Grandma! I haven’t seen you in a long time!"

She stood up to her full height, which brought her somewhere in the vicinity of Jax’s armpit. "I might say the same thing about you, young man." She looked around Jax and smiled at Paul. "Hey ‘ya, dimples? How’s tricks?"

Paul smiled and blushed a little. "Just fine, hot stuff! What’s new?"

"Well, as much as I’d love to spend the time drooling over you, I’m here to see this other babe magnet." She tapped Jax lightly on the arm. "Do you suppose you have a few minutes to listen to the ravings of a foolish old woman?"

Jax shook his head, his lips forming a thin line. "Nope, Grandma. Not today." Angie gasped audibly, but then Jax poked her with his elbow and smiled with abundant charm at Josie. "But I *always* have time for you!"

"Ah, Jasper, you inherited your grandfather’s ability to pull your fat out of the fire at the last minute." As Jax turned and went back into his office, Josie leaned down to Angie as she passed. "Let’s just hope that you’ve still got it." She winked at Angie. "Don’t let anyone -- or any *boobs* -- disturb us, OK gorgeous?"

Angie gave her the thumbs up, and Josie walked regally into Jax’s office, where he was still holding the door open for her. Paul followed close behind, but before Jax could close the door, he caught it. "I think I’ll go downstairs and check on that surveillance camera we had installed in here." He smiled as he waved at Josie. "Later, chicky!"

"Back at ‘ya!" Josie leered, as Paul closed the door with a smile. Josie smiled at Jax as he came back to his desk and went to sit down in his chair, unbuttoning his suit coat as he relaxed. "Not only is that young man handsome, but he’s smart to boot."

Jax nodded, and then folded his hands in his lap. "Now, Grandma, what brings you all the way down here to see me today?"

"Can’t a woman spend a little time with her grandson, for pete’s sake?" Josie said, fiddling with the clasp on her purse.

Jax tilted his head to one side and leaned forward in his chair. "OK, Grandma, time to come clean. It’s not like you to beat around the bush like this. You usually don’t come to see me unless you have something to talk about or you want to exercise some stock options – and you can just as well have Dad take care of those for you." Jax narrowed his eyes as he gazed at her, and Josie bristled a little and then settled into her chair.

"OK, Jasper, if that’s the way you want to play this." She gave him a look that could melt solid steel. "Do you remember that radio program I like to listen to when I can’t sleep at night?"

Jax frowned in puzzlement. "I think so. You can only get it on a clear night on the CBS radio affiliate here in town, right?"

Josie nodded. "That’s the one. Well, I’m here today to check out the man who hosts that program. You know – the one who always says, "You can’t fix stupid"? I’m here to see if he’s right or not."

"I don’t understand, Grandma." Jax leaned back in his chair, but then suddenly his face showed the beginnings of enlightenment. "Wait a minute – are you saying that I said something stupid in a speech lately?"

Josie gave Jax a look of disgust. "No, Jasper, I’m saying that you’ve been behaving like when you were single again – dumber than dirt."

"You’ve been talking to Brenda." It was a statement, not a question. His eyes were beginning to cloud with anger.

"Hell’s bells, the poor girl needs SOMEONE to talk to, Jasper! Lord knows you haven’t been around there lately! And she can’t very well talk to your daughter about how her father has been behaving like a horse’s @ss."

Jax sighed. "And I don’t suppose she told you anything that I said when we had our little discussion the other day, did she?"

"Jasper, this isn’t a matter of whose side I’m on," Josie scolded. "Even though I used all of my superior detective skills and proved to her that the picture was probably a fake, the fact remains that you’ve been ignoring your wife and family."

Jax got up from his chair and came around to sit in the chair next to Josie’s. "Grandma, I tried to explain to Brenda that suddenly in the middle of this campaign, it occurred to me that I WANT this seat in the assembly. I really think I can make a difference for the people in this district."

"Fine. Wanting to win is important." Josie took his hand in hers. "But must you speak at EVERY dinner that Kimberly plans, or have drinks with EVERY person she contacts? At this rate, you won’t be elected because you’re the best man for the job. You’ll be elected because you’re her puppet." Josie patted his knee as she dropped his hand. "She’s been telling you to jump, and all you’ve been saying is "How high?" For a man who tells the voters he’s not controlled by outside interests like Mrs. Roberts, you sure seem to let Kimberly control you."

Jax got up slowly and walked to stand behind his desk chair, running his hands through his hair in frustration. He turned back to her, putting his hands on his hips, and Josie actually thought she saw the glint of a tear in his eye. "You believe that I love Brenda and I would never do anything to hurt her, don’t you Grandma?"

"Absu-dam-tively," Josie said emphatically. "But now you just have to convince Brenda of that."

"She knows!" Jax said defensively. Then he added in a much smaller voice, "Doesn’t she?"

"It’s been kinda hard for her to believe that when you’re never around, Jasper. And especially when Kimberly seems to have you wrapped around her little finger."

Jax sat down in his chair. "But how do I do that, Grandma? Kimberly says that all of these speaking engagements and dinners are important, and I don’t know the first thing about politics. How do I know when she’s right and when she’s just trying to……" Jax grimaced. "…..hit on me?"

Josie leaned forward. "Use your common sense, Jasper. I know it’s still in there, despite what that man on the radio says. It’s always served you well before." She pulled her chair closer to his desk. "Now – for example – what’s this wing-ding she’s got you scheduled for tonight?"

Jax looked down at his calendar and made a face. "It looks like a speech at the Annual Ravioli Dinner of the Daughters of the Port Charles Presbyterian Association."

"Well," Josie said slowly, "I don’t claim to be an expert like Kimberly, but I really don’t think that losing the votes of a few old Presbyterian bitties will cost you the election." She looked dramatically from side to side, then crooked one finger at Jax, motioning him to come nearer. "Now on the other hand, let me ask you a serious question." She dropped her voice. "When was the last time you and Brenda had a really fierce fu….."

"GRANDMA!!!" Jax pushed his chair back and jumped up as though something burned him.

"Oh, for cryin’ in the bucket, Jasper, don’t look so shocked!" Josie said with a frown. "You two been married for over five years and got two kids! I think it’s safe to say that we all know that you and Brenda…." Jax gave her a dirty look. "…..DO it."

"I know that, Grandma, but there’s a big difference between …..doing it….." he said in a quieter voice, "…..and ……well…..what you said."

Josie rose from her chair and went to cup Jax’s face in her hands. "You know, I always tell you how much you are like my Jasper. So tall, and strong, and those eyes." She sighed and then pulled him closer. "Well, let me tell you, cutie pie…..if you’re anything like your grandpa was, then you and Brenda are doin’ some fierce f…." She caught Jax’s panicked look and stopped herself, shaking her head and folding her arms across her chest. Then a wistful look came across her features. "Ahhh….I remember the night when your father was conceived. Now THAT was one fierce….."

Jax threw his hands up. "THAT’S IT! I REFUSE to carry on this conversation any further!"

Josie returned to her chair, shaking her head and clucking her tongue. "Hell’s bells, Jasper, you don’t think that the Easter Bunny brought your father into this world, do you?" She looked up at him with a sly grin on her face. "Although I must admit that the night your father was conceived, your grandpa Jasper *was* like a bunny – the Energizer Bunny!"

Jax sat back down at his desk wearily, shaking his head and allowing the hint of a smile to grace his features. "I understand, Grandma. But it’s just a little ….. unsettling…..to discuss my parents and my grandparents …..you know…."

Josie waved her hand in the air. "I know, I know. You don’t want to say the word." Her eyes narrowed again. "OK, so if you don’t want to talk about the rest of us, let’s get back to you and Brenda. How about tonight?"

"Tonight? You mean I should just ditch the speech and spend the night with Brenda instead?"

Josie put both hands out as though they were old-fashioned scales. "Hmmm," she said, looking from one to the other and moving them up and down as though they were weighing something. "Let’s see. Speaking at some boring meeting of crusty Port Charles matrons, eating cold ravioli, or planning and carrying out an old-fashioned seduction of your wife in some romantic setting, with candles, and champagne, and no clothing….." She moved her hands up and down again, and then gave him a pointed look. "Jasper, if you can’t pick between those two, you’re not dumber than dirt, you ARE dirt!!!"

A naughty smile began to spread across Jax’s face. "Grandma, have I ever told you what a genius you are?"

She sat back in her chair, happily twiddling her thumbs. "See. I told you. I KNEW that man on the radio was wrong." At Jax’s frown, she lost her smile. "What’s the matter? Something else?"

Jax tipped his head to the side. "Not really, I guess. I mean – I’m pretty sure we can get Angie to stay with the kids tonight, and James will be with them. And we can probably hide Paul down the hall from us somewhere and just give him heavy-duty earplugs……"

"This is getting to sound better and better all the time!" Josie giggled. "So what’s the problem?"

"Telling Kimberly that I’m canceling the appearance and the speech," Jax sighed. "She’s going to be furious, I’m sure."

Josie tapped her finger against her chin for a minute, and then her eyes lit up with a mischievous twinkle. "Not a problem. Let me handle Kimmy." She stood up and went to behind Jax’s chair. "Now…..why don’t you get started planning this little seduction scenario." She glanced down at her watch. "What time were you meeting the Wicked Witch of the Chest?"

Jax checked his calendar. "3 o’clock this afternoon."

"Perfect," Josie said seriously. "Let’s synchronize our watches, lieutenant." Jax smiled and shook his head at his grandmother’s antics. "Operation Fierce…" Jax gave her a pained look. "…..Operation Romantic Ren-dez-voo is now underway."

December 6, 2002 – 1:30PM

Jacks residence

Brenda was carrying Jaz down the hallway, shaking her finger at him as she did. "Jasper, Jr.! How many times have mommy and daddy told you that touching the pretty plates in the dining room is a no-no?" Jaz’s lower lip was coming out at an appalling rate as Louise hurried up to catch up to Brenda’s quick pace.

"Oh, Louise," Brenda sighed in relief. "Would you mind taking care of the broken china in the dining room so I can take the little culprit here upstairs for his first time-out?"

"No problem, Mrs. Jacks," Louise smiled. "And Mr. Jacks is on the phone for you."

Brenda watched Louise disappear back down the hallway. "Great. If one male Jacks wasn’t making my life miserable enough today, let’s add another one, just for good measure!" She ducked quickly into Jax’s first-floor study and closed the door behind her. Glancing around, she put Jaz down on the floor, and then tipped two chairs on their sides around him, making a crude playpen enclosure. "Stay!" she commanded, pointing her finger at him like a disobedient puppy and giving him a fierce stare. Convinced that she had put the fear of God into this Jacks male, she sighed and went to pick up the phone. "Hello?"

"Hi, sweetie, it’s me." Jax paused for a moment. "Is everything OK?"

"Just dandy," Brenda answered sarcastically. "Your son just broke three of the Waterford crystal plates that Lila Quartermaine sent us for a belated wedding present and there’s glass all over the dining room floor, that’s all!" She sighed and rubbed her temples in frustration. "I’m sorry I snapped at you. How’s your day been?"

"Probably better than yours," Jax said sympathetically. "I won’t keep you long. I just wanted to make sure that we were on the same page for tonight."

"Tonight?" Brenda’s mind was a blank, but then a vision of Kimberly popped up. "Oh, right….tonight. You have to give a speech somewhere so you won’t be home for dinner." {This is just what I needed to make my day perfect. Remind me that you’ll be spending time with her instead of me.}

"Right….well, I imagine you’ll be eating early with the kids, right?"

Brenda frowned. "Right. Why?"

"Because. If you eat with the kids, that means you’ll be able to be at the Port Charles Hotel at 7 PM tonight."

"Why would I want to be there alone, Jax? What’s going on?" Brenda was beginning to get worried, but her husband’s low seductive voice began to make her wonder if he had something up his sleeve.

"You’ll find that out later this afternoon. For now, just plan on being at the Port Charles Hotel at 7 tonight. And be ready."

"Be ready?" {Has he lost his mind?} "For what?"

His answer was short and was immediately followed by the sound of the dial tone. "Me."

Jacks Tower – 2:45PM

Kimberly sauntered into Jax’s outer office and immediately breezed her way past Angie’s desk, waving absently in the air in her direction. "I have an appointment with Jasper, dear. Don’t disturb us."

Angie rose quickly. "Uh…..Miss Forsythe?" Kimberly stopped with her hand on the doorknob. "Jax isn’t in there."

"He’s not?" She stuck out her lower lip unattractively, and then sighed. "Oh, well, that’s OK. He’s probably detained somewhere. I’ll just wait for him inside."

Angie was smiling so broadly on the inside that she was having a hard time containing her glee. "No, he’s not in there and he’s not coming back today, Miss Forsythe."

Kimberly’s eyes began to blaze. "Are you sure? Because we had to make preparations for his speaking engagement tonight and usually Jasper doesn’t like to be unprepared……"

"’Ya know, that’s what I always LOVED about the Boy Scouts, didn’t you?" Josie’s voice rang from the hallway outside Jax’s office. "The way they were always prepared for any and every thing that could happen." She winked at Angie, who sat back down at her desk to watch the fireworks. "Hi’ya, Kimmy! What’s up?"

Kimberly smiled wanly at Josie. "Mrs. Jacks. Nice to see you again." She looked deliberately past Josie at Angie. "Do you know where Jasper is this afternoon and how I can reach him?"

"Oh, he’s gone, Kimmy. Gone for the day, and probably the weekend, don’t you think, Angie?" Josie replied, barely able to contain her own laughter.

"But that’s IMPOSSIBLE!" Kimberly was beginning to see red. "He has a speech to deliver tonight at the Daughters of the….."

"…..Port Charles High and Mighty, I know," Josie interrupted her. She came over and took Kimberly by the arm. "Well, Miss Kimmy, there’s had to be a slight alteration in plans because Jasper won’t be able to make that speech and dinner tonight."

Kimberly’s face lightened a little. "Did you send him off on a rescue mission again?"

Josie looked immensely pleased with herself. "You might say that. Yeah – that’s pretty accurate, actually." She shook her head to snap out of it and patted Kimberly’s arm reassuringly. "But don’t you worry your pretty little head about it, Kimmy. Before Jasper left, we made sure that we had a replacement speaker all lined up."

Kimberly began to look uncomfortable. "Maybe I should be going with Jasper on the rescue to make sure he gets the right kind of press coverage….."

"Honey, Jasper will know EXACTLY what kind of pressing he needs to do tonight, and he won’t need or want your help with it, believe me!" Just then a voice was heard calling from out in the hallway.

"J? J? Are you around here somewhere?" Angie had to cover her face with her hand to stifle her giggle at the expression on Kimberly’s face. A brunette tornado poked her head into the office and a smile immediately lit up her face. "J! I’m so sorry I was late, but I had to find all my notes before I came."

"No problem, V. We were just on the way to look for you." Josie had a tough time keeping a straight face of her own. "Kimmy, you remember V Ardanowski, don’t you? Jerry’s exec assistant?" V put out an enthusiastic hand to Kimberly, who weakly took it and shook it.

"Of course, how could I forget?" She gave Josie a pointed look. "What’s going on – the bottom line?"

Josie rubbed her hands together in a businesslike fashion. "Well, as I said, Jasper won’t be able to make it to that dinner tonight to speak, and we certainly didn’t want to leave you there looking embarrassed like that other time at the press conference, so we came up with a replacement – V!!"

Kimberly looked back and forth between the two women several times before exploding. "Her?! What could she POSSIBLY have to speak to the women’s group about?"

Josie went to put her arm around a slightly insulted V. "Why, Kimmy, V here is just a *wealth* of information when it comes to a topic that those Presbyterians will probably be very interested to hear about – women’s self-defense maneuvers!"

V’s face shone with enthusiasm. "That’s right, Miss Forsythe. You probably didn’t know that several of my brothers are in law enforcement." She leaned forward confidentially. "Why, before I came to work for the Jacks brothers, I even toyed with the idea of following in their footsteps and becoming an officer myself!"

Kimberly was still in shock. "What a loss to the profession," she said flatly.

"Anyway," she blathered on, not paying attention to Kimberly’s insult, "I hung around so many of their self-defense classes that I began to practice the moves myself, and finally talked my parents into enrolling me in the classes, too! I’m a 3rd degree black belt now!"

"Whoopy for you," Kimberly said acidly.

"ANYWAY, we thought that since V here will be speaking at the dinner tonight in Jasper’s place, you could just work with her all afternoon on her presentation! Don’t you think that would be a great idea?" Josie’s enthusiasm had Angie nearly falling off her chair in stitches.

"Super." Kimberly looked V up and down critically. "Well, I guess we’d better get started. It’s going to be a long afternoon….."

V grabbed Kimberly by the arm to lead her out of the office, still bubbling. "I’m so excited about this whole thing, and I’ve got some great ideas I wanted to run past you for an opening, Kimberly." She stopped just outside the door to Jax’s outer office with Josie following behind them. "You know, Mrs. Jacks and I have found that it’s much quicker when you’re working under a deadline to just shorten names…..like I’m V, and she’s J….." Kimberly recoiled a little in horror. "You don’t mind if I call you K, do you?"

Kimberly was speechless as V led her out of Angie’s sight and down the hallway. Josie stopped in Jax’s doorway and with a wink of her eye, both she and Angie pumped their right arms in victory……with a V.

Jacks residence, 4 PM

Brenda was sitting in the living room reading Jo a story when Louise put her head in the door. "Excuse me, Mrs. Jacks, but a messenger just brought this for you." Brenda’s face grew momentarily pale, but then Louise reassured her, "It’s from Mr. Jacks."

"From daddy? Is it a present?" Jo asked with wide eyes.

"I’m not really sure, darling," Brenda answered with curiosity. She opened the envelope and a key fell out. When she looked at it closely, she saw that it was the key to a penthouse suite at the Port Charles Hotel. Just then, the phone rang. Brenda reached to answer it, but before she could say a word, she heard her husband’s voice.

"Did you get my delivery?"

"Just now," Brenda answered. "Does this have something to do with your earlier phone call?"

Jax avoided her question. "Are you going to have dinner with the children?"

Brenda glanced down at Jo. "Yes….in about 45 minutes." Before she could ask another question, Jax cut her off.

"Good. That will give you plenty of time. Plan on arriving at the Port Charles Hotel around 7. Ask for Reese, and show him the key. He’ll escort you to the suite that the key is for."

"And then?" Brenda was trying to stay angry, but was finding her curiosity threatening to overwhelm her earlier feelings towards Jax.

"Then just wait for my further instructions. I’ll arrive around 7:30."

"Really?" Brenda was incredulous. "Are you sure you don’t have some other prior engagement with Kimberly that requires your attention this evening?"

"Love, the only thing that will require my attention this evening is …..you." Again, Brenda was shocked when she heard the dial tone.

"What’s going on, mommy?" Jo asked innocently.

"I’m not sure yet," Brenda answered with a half-smile. "But I think your grandmother has been a busy lady today."

Port Charles Hotel, Penthouse Suite B, 7PM

"Thank you, Reese," Brenda said, entering the penthouse promptly at 7PM. She had to run to answer the phone, which was ringing as soon as she closed the door. "Hello?"

"Are you ready for me yet? Just 30 more minutes."

Brenda frowned. "Jax, quit playing games. What’s going on?"

"Did you eat with the children?"

"A little." At that moment, there was a knock at the door of the suite and Brenda heard the click of the phone being hung up. She went and opened the door a crack, and was surprised when Room Service rolled in a large table, featuring a silver compote with giant strawberries and a magnum of champagne. A large white gift box tied with a pink ribbon was in the middle of the table, and pink tulips were strewn on the table for decoration. As Brenda grabbed one strawberry and bit into it, the phone rang again.

"Did you like my surprise? Only 25 more minutes until I join you. Are you ready for me?"

Brenda had to deliberately think hateful thoughts so as not to sound too anxious. "Actually, Jax, this is such a lovely suite and such a lovely spread of strawberries, I don’t think I need you this evening. I’m just enjoying the privacy of being away from the kids and broken plates and screaming."

"Open the box." Click.

Brenda went and fingered the bow on the box. It WAS elegant, and infinitely tempting. After taking another strawberry, she ripped the bow from the box and opened it to find a pure silk peignoir set in the softest shade of shell pink she had ever seen. The front of the gown was pure Chantilly lace, cut to a deep V in the front, and the back of the gown was practically non-existent. There was a matching silk and lace robe, and even pale pink mules for her feet. The phone rang again.

"Do you like it?"

"It’s all right," Brenda tried to sound blasé, "if you’re warm-blooded enough to wear that thin stuff during a Port Charles winter." She was biting the knuckle of her left hand in frustration as she held the phone in her right hand.

"Go into the bathroom. 15 more minutes." Click.

Brenda giggled in glee after she hung up the phone, and when she opened the door to the plush bathroom of the suite, she was greeted with the sight of a plush white terry cloth robe laying across the bench in front of a massive oval, sunken tub for two. On top of the robe was a very small gift box with a pink bow. She ran to it and immediately ripped off the bow and opened the box. Her mouth formed a large "O" when she found an elegant heart-shaped pink diamond 2-carat solitaire suspended from a delicate gold rope chain. The phone in the bathroom rang again.

"Do you like it?"

{Don’t sound eager, Brenda. Make him work for it.} "It’s all right," she sighed. "But do you know what I REALLY like? This entire bathroom, all to myself. No crying children pounding on the door. No little ones wanting to jump in the bathtub with me and share the bubbles." She let out a long breath. "So, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to indulge myself in this glorious bathtub…..ALONE!"

She heard Jax’s smile. "You’re welcome, Brenda. And you’re down to 10 minutes. Clock’s tickin’. Are you ready for me yet?" Click.

Squealing in pure delight, Brenda pulled the pendant out of the box and fastened it around her neck, rushing to the mirror to admire her reflection. Then she turned and slowly walked back to the tub. Actually, she hadn’t been lying THAT much when she told Jax she would enjoy the luxury of privacy when bathing. She couldn’t remember the last time that either Jaz or Jo had interrupted her and she had to settle for a quick shower instead.

After liberally sprinkling bath salts into the tub and filling it with steaming water, she shed her clothes quickly and sank into pure bliss. As she leaned back to rest her head, she heard the phone ring again. She grabbed the extension next to the tub.

"Enjoying yourself? Only a minute and a half now, Brenda. Are you ready for me yet?"

Brenda tried to take a deep breath. Although she was enjoying Jax’s seduction immensely, if the truth be told, she was also enjoying her first private bath in a long time. "Jax, you can stop the games now." She glanced around. "I’ve got the door of the suite locked and the security chain on. You can’t possibly get past the front door to join me. I’ve enjoyed your pampering, but now why don’t you just go give your speech and let me enjoy this bath. Maybe you can meet me later this evening." There was silence on the other end of the phone. "Hello? Jax? Are you still there?"

His voice finally came back. "As much as the sound of your voice enchants me, love, you’ve used up almost all of your time talking. Only 10 seconds now.....9.......8.......7......"

"Jax? Hello, Jax?" Brenda pulled the phone away from her ear. She could hear the distinct sound of the dial tone, yet she still heard Jax’s voice counting backwards. She sat up straight in the tub.

".....3......2......" The large French doors on the other side of the bathroom opened. "1. Time’s up." Jax came through the doors.

"What are you.....how.....I thought that was a linen closet!" Brenda squeaked.

Jax walked deliberately to the tub, smiling wickedly at his distraught wife. He had on midnight blue silk pajama bottoms with a drawstring closure. The pants rode dangerously low on his hips, and Brenda had to remind herself to breathe as she was presented with her husband’s broad, muscular chest and the thin band of blonde hair that led southward from his navel. He carried two flutes of champagne, one in each hand. He stopped at the tub and crouched beside it, his gaze locked with Brenda’s. As he set the glasses of champagne down on the bench next to the tub, Jax took a finger and lifted the pendant off Brenda’s neck, letting it fall back to her skin, and trailing the finger down to the valley between her breasts.

"Time’s up, Brenda. Are you ready for me?"

To be continued......
